Virginia Peninsula APA Playoff Structure

 
Playoffs are held 3 times a year, typically 1 to 2 weeks after the end of each session. The playoff structure varies from division to division based on division size.
 

·        4 Team Divisions – 1 team qualifies:

1st place team  vs Wild Card team; the winner determines the Division winning team. The Division winning team will qualify to play in the Tri-Cup Tournament. 
 

·        5 Team Divisions – 1 team qualifies:

1st place team vs Wild Card team and 2nd place team vs 3rd place team; the winners of those matches will play each other to determine the Division winning team. The Division winning team will qualify to play in the Tri-Cup Tournament.

·        6 - 9 Team Divisions – 2 teams qualify:

The team that finishes in 1st place in the Division at the end of the session will automatically qualify for the Tri-Cup and will not have to play the first two rounds of the End-of-Session Tournament. Another team will qualify for the Tri-Cup Tournament by winning in the End-of-Session tournament as follows: 2nd place team vs Wild Card team and 3rd place team vs 4th place team; the winners of those matches will play each other with the winning team of that match advancing to the Tri-Cup Tournament.

·        10 - 11 Team Divisions – 3 teams qualify:

The teams that finish in 1st place and 2nd place in the Division at the end of the session will automatically qualify for the Tri-Cup and will not have to play the first two rounds of the End-of-Session Tournament. Another team will qualify for the Tri-Cup Tournament by winning in the End-of-Session tournament as follows: 3rd place team vs Wild Card team and 4th place team vs 5th place team; the winners of those matches will play each other with the winning team of that match advancing to the Tri-Cup Tournament.

·        12 – 16 Team Divisions – 4 team qualify:

The teams that finish in 1st and 2nd place in the Division at the end of the session will automatically qualify for the Tri-Cup and will not have to play the first two rounds of the End-of-Session Tournament. Another two teams will qualify for the Tri-Cup by winning in the End-of-Session tournament as follows: 3rd place will play a Wild Card team and 6 th place will play 7 th place in a semi-final round and the winners will advance to play each other in a final round. 4 th place will play 9 th place and 5 th place will play 8 th place in a semi-final round and the winners will advance to play each other in a final round. Winners of the finals rounds will advance to the Tri-Cup Tournament. 

Wildcard Draw

After the final week of play, the League Office in the presence of at least one witness, will conduct the wildcard draw. Those teams not seeded in the playoffs are eligible for the draw. Teams will lose eligibility for the wildcard draw if they are past due any amount, they forfeited more than five (5) individual matches in the session or are judged ineligible by the League Operator for some other reason such as sportsmanship issues.
